Getting To Know You...

5 Things I Want My Kids to Know...

1. The disagreements you have with others (friends, siblings, parents...) are a good reason to practice saying "I'm sorry". No issue is ever too big for these words.

2. Invest in people... that market never fails!

3. Look before you leap! Sometimes the fluffy top layer of snow is covering something the dog wants to hide! (Right Aubrey?)

4. There is plenty of time to listen to the quiet when you are dead... now is the time for laughter, fun and family chaos... you know what I mean!

5. Love... Faith... Hope... The greatest of these is LOVE!

Getting to know you...

5 things I want my kids to know before they grow up...

1. Hard times may come, but family pulls together...

2. It's okay to get dirty...

3. When you are grown and have families of your own, you will understand so much better why we did some of the things we have done...

4. Things don't bring happiness...Stuff doesn't fill that hole... only God can do that...

5. There is always more room to love someone new. Someone once told me that love doesn't divide, it multiplies... Love that!

Getting to know you...

5 things I want my children to know before they grow up...

1. We won't always agree, but we will always LOVE each other... unconditionally!

2. I don't care if you are first, fastest, cutest, thinnest... Just always give me your best!

3. When your day goes terribly wrong... thank God that you can start over again in the morning.

4. Remember where you come from... your behavior reflects on all of us.

5. Family, Family, Family... what more can I say?

Geting to know you...

5 Things I want my children to know before they grow up...

1. You won't leave my home at 18 and have the same life we have. We have worked hard for what we have. We have sacrificed. We did without things so you would be able to attend camps, sports and be a part of youth activities. You will, hopefully, do the same for your family. One day, when you look back at how far you have come, you will be filled with pride for all you have accomplished and all the Lord has provided.

2. The things you put into your brain through books, television and music is what will come out through your thoughts and actions. Choose wisely.

3. Someday your dad and I will be gone. Invest in your relationships with your siblings. There will come a time in all of your lives where you will be so thankful for those relationships. They share your history. They know your stories. They know why "actions and consequences" will always bring a good laugh, there is a alarm that goes off when someone leaves the house and they know the words to "one day I saw a white horse".

4. Love is a choice. It is a word meant to be put into action. Don't get caught up in societies definition of love. It will fail you every time. Wake up each day and CHOOSE to love. Choose to love your parents, siblings, spouse, kids, friends... There will be days when you will wonder how you can love that other person, but you make a choice and love. Then put it into action. Tell them. Do something for them. Spend time with them. Love them.

5. Before you end a phone call with a relative, leave a lunch with your husband, go to work in the morning or send your kids off to school... Tell them you love them. You never know when it will be your last chance. In this life our days are uncertain. You never know when you may not get the chance to speak those words to someone again.

Getting to know you...

5 things I want my kids to know before they grow up...

1. I never knew I could love something as much as I love each of you... individually.

2. I learn something new from each of you every day.

3. Sometimes we win and sometimes we fail, but we always keep trying.

4. I miss all of your tiny little baby bodies.

5. Someday you will understand why being your best friend now is not my goal. Right now, in this moment, being your parent is my number one priority. We will be best buds later... when you're grown. I never understood that principle until I became a mommy myself and understood the monumental task ahead of me.

Getting to know you...

5 things I want my kids to know before they grow up...
1. With God all things are possible. Never give up. You have the most important friend by yourside at all times.
2. No matter what you have done, where you have messed up... Christ's grace is sufficient. You can always come to the feet of the cross.
3. You are always loved more than you can ever imagine! Nothing and no one can change that. Someday you will hold your own little child in your hands and feel the most unbelievable swelling of love. This is just a flicker of the love your Heavenly Father has for you, and know that your own parents have felt this for you since holding you for the first time.
4. Your parents and siblings will always be there for you. No matter how much time since you last called, wrote, emailed, hung out together... family comes together to help, love and support family.
5. No matter how many times you fall, get up...get up...get up. Never give up!

declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future..."
