A Conversation with the Physical Therapist and an old man...

PT: So I've noticed that you are just buzzing through those exercises we have you doing.

Me: Yeah... (trying to decided if this is a good or bad thing)

PT: On a scale of 1 - 10, 10 being the worst pain you've ever felt, where would your pain be today?

Me: (still trying to decide where this conversation is going) Well, when I'm moving it is a 1 or 2. But when I stand still for a couple of minutes it moves up to a 5 or 6.

PT: Good, good. (Now, I'm thinking I've done something really great and may be getting a reward). Well, since you are doing so well, I think it is time to bring on some more difficult exercises to strengthen your core. (me... smiling... even though I think I may cry) I can tell you are working hard at home because of how well you are doing here. (him... smiling, thinking I am appreciating his "kind" words)

Me: Uh... Okay. (Me... walking out to the car so I can cry on the way home, cuz I thought I am working so hard and I really appreciate that he notices and that I am getting better... but Holy Cow... this is hard!..................)

In the car...

Me: Can you believe that? I thought he was going to say that I was doing so well that we were done or something... not that we were going to make it more difficult! Those plank exercises nearly kill me.

Husband: That's what you get for thinking... Ha Ha hahahahahahahahahh....

Me: hahahahahahahah (sleep lightly, old man... sleep lightly...)

Back update...are you getting sick of this yet?

I know I have mentioned this about a thousand times lately. However, this blog is about our lives... mine included. Lately this back trouble has been my life, so... sorry!

The back is doing better. This has been the slowest recovery from any injury that I have ever experienced. Thank goodness it is recovering, though.

Today I have been able to get up and move around a little. I can finally stand up straight... at least for a few minutes. I am able to fold laundry if someone brings the clean laundry to me. For any of you that are familiar with our home... that is huge! We have to do laundry every day or there will be huge mountains of it in a very short time... like 24 hours. We are working on it, though. Now that I can get things moving a little, hopefully we will have the mountain down to a hill in a few days.

There are so many things I can't wait to get to. It is funny that when I am able to move around, I don't want to do these "chores". Right now, I would love to do some of those "chores". All in good time, my family keeps telling me.

Afraid to say it...

But... maybe if I whisper, it won't count...

So far today, my back pain is tolerable. No tears. I am taking it
r e a l l y easy and just resting... promise!

I will let you know how it is all going tomorrow.

I wish I could post some pictures, but right now I am relying on the kindness of my children to upload photos onto the main computer since I can't get to it.

patient...

I am trying very hard to be patient with... well everything, right now.

My back continues to plague me. In fact for a few days it seemed like it was getting worse... if that is possible and still be able to walk.

The doctor and my loving hubby have me laying on the floor with my legs up on the couch. I am trying to be good, but really, how long can one person be this still?

I know, I know... patience.

Back Update...

Yesterday, we ended up at the hospital. I have been downplaying how much pain my back was giving me. However, the pain finally got so bad yesterday that my husband got worried and took me to the emergency room.

They told me that my back is having severe back spasms. While at the hospital they gave me valium, tordal and morphine. WOW!!!! I don't even remember leaving the hospital. Aparently getting me in bed was something out of a comedy. I was feeling zero pain! I woke in the middle of the night and threw up (sorry that may be TMI). Mark said he had trouble staying asleep because I was shaking so hard I was shaking the bed and my teeth were clicking together. I don't think the heavy stuff is for me! I don't like feeling that way... although the zero pain thing was good.

Today they have me on three other meds to try and get my back to settle down. I am not allowed to do.... well, anything. Anyone who knows me, knows that isn't very easy to do around here, but.... well, I need to get better!

I have slept a lot!!! The meds make me dizzy and sleepy so... turn out the lights!

Mark is taking a nap now because he didn't get any sleep last night. Poor, good husband.

So... if I don't get on here very much for the next few days, you can make an educated guess that I am sleeping.

Say a little prayer for me...

The day after Christmas I started having some pretty intense back pain.

I thought it would go away in a day or so if I just rested it.

NO!

It is awful. I can barely get around and that is not good... really not good!

I can't stand going to a doctor, but I may have to if this doesn't end soon!

Okay... enough ranting... I just feel so helpless and like such a burden to my husband and kids.

Say a little prayer if you get a chance...

Thanks.
